Hublot pays a tribute to the late a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician and philanthropist, with a special rendition of its Classic Fusion timepiece. Introducing the Hublot Classic Fusion House of Mandela.
To celebrate the legend of Nelson Mandela, Hublot has partnered with the House of Mandela, the foundation established by the family of the celebrated defender of human rights. Mandela, who passed away two years ago, at the age of 95, is regarded as the father of the South African nation, and a symbol for a global movement and act to change the world for better. Hublot has decided to pay him a tribute with a gorgeous new model named Classic Fusion House of Mandela. As the brand explains, the creation is an homage to both Mandela’s exceptional character and his legacy. The portion of the profits gained by the sale of this special limited edition will be donated to the House of Mandela, contributing to the education of South African Children.
In the words of Ricardo Guadalupe, Hublot’s CEO: "It is an honor for us to have been able to create this piece as a tribute to such an important figure as Nelson Mandela, who has made a lasting mark on the history of humanity. The Classic Fusion House of Mandela is a way for us to ensure the philosophy and actions of this great man continue to live on."
The Hublot Classic Fusion House of Mandela is available in two different versions – one designed for men, and one aimed at the ladies. Both renditions are crafted from Hublot’s proprietary 18-karat King Gold, and issued in a limited edition of 95 pieces (which is a reference to Mandela’s age at the time of his death). The men’s model measures 45 mm in diameter, while the ladies’ version spans to 42 mm. The solid gold dial on both watches reveals a beautiful decoration, which is the totem of the Mandela family - a bee with outstretched, branched wings which symbolize the various branches of the Mandela family tree. The bee has been chosen as a symbol because the Mandela's Xhosa name, Rolihlahla, translates as "he who is brave enough to fetch the honey from the honeycomb" or "challenge the status quo". In addition, the bee is a symbol of bravery, sharing, and compassion.
The men’s version of Hublot Classic Fusion House of Mandela is powered by the self-winding mechanical movement HUB 1112, while the feminine model utilizes the HUB 1110 movement. Both calibers are fitted with a simple date display (at 3 o’clock) and they provide around 42 hours of power reserve. The ladies’ model is also graced with 35 diamonds (1.15 carats) on the bezel, while both models feature the “Mandela” signature engraving. The commemorative case-back is engraved with the words “Special Edition, 1 OF 95” and the African continent, as well as “It’s in our hands” on the sapphire crystal with an interior anti-reflective coating.
Hublot Classic Fusion House of Mandela is water resistant to 50 meters. The watch comes on a semi-matt black alligator leather strap with a gold clasp. The reference numbers are: 511.OX.0200.LR.MDL15 for the men’s version, and 511.OX.0200.LR.MDL15 for the ladies’ edition.
