Introducing the Hublot Classic Fusion Enamel Britto limited edition
On the occasion of the BaselWorld 2015 trade show, Hublot unveiled the Classic Fusion Enamel Britto, a watch designed in collaboration with the renowned Brazilian pop artist Romero Britto. The watch is announced as the product of fusion of arts and crafts, a hybrid between the traditional art of grand feu enameling and contemporary art movements, such as pop art and cubism. As described by the band, this model symbolizes the fusion of time, as it transposes an ancient art into one of the most modern designs.
Hublot is not one of the watchmaking brands that are typically associated with the art of enameling. However, the design of the brightly colored dials, guided by Britto’s vibrant artwork, this is exactly what makes the special Classic Fusion Enamel Britto so unique. The master dial-makers first reproduced the outlines of the design to the right scale, before imprinting the dial in white gold to arrange it for champlevé enameling. The carefully prepared dials are then passed to the enamellists who work with the enamel in the same way as Britto works with acrylics. They select 12 opaque colors which will be fixed to the metal through successive firings at a temperature of about 800 C, while the final pattern won’t appear before a couple of days of work.4.
Hublot Classic Fusion Enamel Britto is available in either platinum or ceramic, each mounted on a black alligator strap stitched onto rubber. Both versions are strictly limited: a 50-piece edition for the ceramic version, and a 30-piece series for the platinum version. The watches are housed in Classic Fusion cases of 45mm in diameter, topped with polished bezel in matching material. On the inside beats the CLASSICO HUB1302 hand-wound movement, which incorporates 123 parts and 23 jewels. In addition to hours and minutes, the movement also drives a small second hand at 7 o’clock. It promises up to 90 hours of power reserve and approximately 50 meters of water resistance.
Hublot Classic Fusion Enamel Britto watches in black ceramic (515.CS.0910.LR) are priced at $39,100 US, while the platinum limited edition (515.TS.0910.LR) retails at $67,800 US.
