A couple of days ago, in Paris, the famous Swiss manufacture Hublot has unveiled the special edition Classic Fusion Vendôme Collection. This exclusive new timepiece will be on display at the Hublot boutique, located at the Place Vendôme, for a period of three months. The watch pays tribute to the famous a square in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, which is also a home of many fashionable and deluxe hotels, designer salons, and luxury boutiques. It is also a where Hublot’s boutique, with the famous Vendôme column adorning the stylized H on the Hublot logo, exists for five years.
The emblematic Vendôme Column, inspired by Trajan's column and located at the center of the square, was erected by Napoleon I to commemorate the Battle of Austerlitz. The column is covered in a bronze veneer, which was, allegedly, cast from canons taken from the enemy forces. The column is adorned with bass reliefs, rising 280 meters round the column to the top, portraying French trophies and victories.
As a tribute, Hublot has created this quite unique bronze dial for the Classic Fusion Vendôme Collection. Bronze is, actually, an alloy composed of copper and tin. The green and gilt marbling form on its surface is a natural patina formed when the bronze is weathered and exposed to air or seawater over a period of time. This unique green pigment, also known as “verdigris,” is actually a sign of corrosion which may lead to the formation of copper chlorides, a corrosion-mode called "bronze disease" that could eventually completely destroy the dial. That’s why Hublot has enclosed it in a sapphire crystal, to limit its contact with air, and stabilize the alloy.
The case of the Classic Fusion Vendôme Collection is made of titanium and it measures 45 mm in diameter. It accommodates the self-winding caliber Hublot HUB1100, which is built on 63 components and 21 jewels. The movement beats at a frequency of 28'800 vibrations per hour, and provides about 42 hours of power reserve. The dial and case are accompanied by a "vintage" black rubber and brown calfskin strap.
Hublot Classic Fusion Vendôme Collection, reference number 511.NX.0630.VR.VEN16, retails at 10.000 euros. For the next three months, you’ll be able to preview this timepiece exclusively at Hublot’s boutique at number 10, Place Vendôme, which is completely dressed in black to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the All Black invisible time display concept.
