Hublot has just unveiled a piece made entirely from black ceramic, with an image of a skull on its dial. The watch is named the Skull Bang, and it arrives on the market under the slogan “A Rock’n’Roll Rebel.” The guy you see on our leading picture, who wears the Skull Bang on his wrist, is not a rock star but actually Laurent Picciotto, the owner at the Paris based Chronopassion. Laurent Picciotto is also known as a serious high-end watch ambassador, and we already saw him in numerous collaborations with famous watchmaking brands including Corum, Richard Mille, and MB&F.
The new Hublot Skull Bang actually honors Mr Picciotto and his unusual flair that has made him an urban icon among the watchmaking fans. The friendship between the famous Swiss brand and a former shareholder in Richard Mille and founder of the Chronopassion, dates back to those days when Mr Picciotto demonstrated his belief in Hublot by opening their first boutique in 2007, in Paris. The new Skull Bang will be available at this shop exclusively, in a very limited numbered series of only 100 pieces.
Hublot Skull Bang comes in a “Classic Fusion” case, with a diameter of 45mm. As already mentioned, the watch is made entirely from polished and satin-finished black ceramic and fitted with a black galvanic sunburst dial. The image of a stylized skull is transferred on a dial to symbolize the “vanitas” – the transience of life which reminds us how fragile we are and how brief our time is. The watch utilizes automatic movement HUB 1112, which provides about 42 hours of power reserve. The mechanism offers indications for hours and minutes, along with a date indicator at 3 o’clock. The movement is partially visible from the see-through case-back, where an openworked black-coated oscillating weight with a tungsten segment appears in motion.
