The house of Jaquet Droz participates in the 7th edition of the world’s most important charity watch auction, which takes place Saturday, November 11, in Geneva. The biennial charity auction of unique timepieces created by the finest brands has been held since 2005, for the benefit of research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. In 2007, on the occasion of the 7th edition of the Only Watch, Jaquet Droz presents one of a kind Grande Seconde Off-Centered model, featuring a cuprite dial. This red colored mineral is composed of cuprous oxide and a minor ore of copper. Discovered in the mid 19th century, this copper-oxide-rich stone is believed to give the planet Mars its distinctive red hue.
For Jaquet Droz, the red of the dial symbolizes the passion dedicated to both the creation of the timepiece and the Only Watch project. Those who believe in crystal potency, and their ability to heal, protect, and convey specific energies, rely on cuprite to overcome difficulties, strengthen the will, and provide a boost in vital life force.
This special rendition of Jaquet Droz’s emblematic Grande Seconde Off-Centered features two counters traditionally aligned on the 12 o’clock / 6 o’clock axis. Their interlocking gold flanges match that of the hands forming the figure 8, the symbol of infinity, completeness, and Jaquet Droz’s lucky number. The dial is framed by a polished 43 mm-wide red gold case, which is held on smooth black alligator strap.
Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Off-Centered for Only Watch 2017 is powered by an automatic mechanical movement that features balance-spring and pallet horns made of silicon and provides up to 68 hours of power reserve. The movement is partially revealed through the sapphire crystal case-back, which also features inscriptions 1/1” and “Only Watch 2017 Cuprite.”
Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Off-Centered Cuprite for Only Watch 2017 will be released at the end of September to coincide with the Monaco Yacht Show.
