For BaselWorld 2015, Jaquet Droz revealed a number of exquisite timepieces, including the new The Butterfly Journey, which pays a beautiful homage to the world of nature.
This delicate timepiece, aimed at ladies who appreciate fine watchmaking, is available in two limited edition series, each comprising eight pieces. As explained by the Jaquet Droz brand, The Butterfly Journey is dedicated to the elegance of the butterfly. The most talented watchmakers and decorators have used all their Atelier d'Art's expertise to embody this romantic but fragile creature as a symbol of time. The butterfly, which is inspired by a motif that was discovered in an old book devoted to Jaquet Droz, is depicted on a delicate poetic dial. It represents a passing angel, drawn along by a butterfly - a theme intimate to the Age of Enlightenment, revived by one of the historical automate created by Pierre Jaquet-Droz.
The manufacture has revisited the same motif two years ago, in 2013, on The Loving Butterfly model, which is a watch inspired by putti – decorative sculptures of children, and one of the prominent motifs of Italian architecture during the Renaissance and Baroque ages. This year, the butterfly motif graces two sets of Petite Heure Minute models, symbolizing the ephemerality of all things (ephemeral – something that lasts for a very short time).
Two sets of Jaquet Droz The Butterfly Journey have been envisioned as two complementary stories. This generously sized watch, which measures 43mm in diameter, is available in either 18-karat red gold, or 18-karat white gold. The lower part of the dial reveals a hand-made butterfly with lively blue champlevé wings. The white gold case is even further embellished, as it features no less than champlevé wings. On this model, the butterfly is made of white gold and depicted as it flutters among pink peonies, which is a flower that symbolizes love.
Both versions of Jaquet Droz’s The Butterfly Journey are powered by the Jaquet Droz 2653, self-winding mechanical movement. The movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and, thanks to its two barrels, provides at least 68 hours of power reserve. The sapphire case-back discloses the 22-karat golden oscillating weight, hand engraved in bas-relief with butterfly motif. The watch is water resistant to 30 meters, while individual limited serial number of each piece is engraved on the case-back.
Reference number J005034266 is made of white gold, and paired with a blue alligator leather strap. The reference number J005033283, which is made of red gold, is mounted on a rolled-edge hand-made black alligator leather strap.
