Ochs und Junior introduces a new version of its Moon Phase Patina model which offers the most accurate moon phase calculation in a wristwatch.
The house of Ochs and Junior was established in 2006 by Ludwig Oechslin, a renowned watchmaker famous for his collaboration with Ulysse Nardin. The Moon Phase Patina watch was first unveiled about three years ago, and it immediately caught the attention of the public thanks to its simple design, perfect legibility, and the most accurate possible calculation of moon phases.

In December 2015, Ochs and Junior unveils its Moon Phase Blue Patina watch, which comes with glorious new dials in blue, blue-black, and grey hues. The shades are not the result of added color, and they are obtained through a controlled chemical process for oxidizing brass, developed by the Maison. The dial is made using the patination technique, which is used by Ludwig Oechslin since the first Ochs und Junior prototypes in 2006. The watch elements have been heat-patinated in an enameling oven at 950 degrees Celsius., hand-assembled, and hand-regulated. Since all of the watches are custom-manufactured, the brand can produce no more than 5 Moon Phase Blue Patina watches in 2016, out of a total of about 50 moon phase watches.

The Moon Phase Blue Patina comes in a rare sterling silver 925 case, graced with details made of hammered platinum PT950, representing the Sun, the Moon, and the date dot. The dial reveals relative positions of the moon, sun and earth, 30+1 date perforations and only 6 indices for hour, minute and second reading. The dark side of the moon is rendered in hammered, dark patinated sterling silver 925.

What is really interesting about this model is that it uses only 5 components to provide the world’s most accurate moon phase calculation in a wristwatch. The will be off by 1 day in 3,478.27 years, while any tradition moon phase complication deviate by one day per about 2 years, 122, 500 or 1007, depending on their level of precision.

Ochs und Junior Moon Phase Blue Patina timepieces are available in 39mm or 42mm versions, each priced at CHF 12’100. The choice of straps includes Choice of sturgeon, leather, suede, and rubber. For more information, please visit Ochs un Junior website.
