At BaselWorld 2014, Jaquet Droz unveiled a special limited edition consisting of three models decorated with the paillonné enameling technique.
Paillonné enameling is a highly demanding decorative technique from the 18th century. Paillonné enameling is done by applying layers of translucent colored enamel over very thin layers of noble metals, such as silver or gold. It involves a number of firings at temperatures that can approach 1000 °C, which results in bright and vibrant colors under the translucent enamel fondant. For 2014, Jaquet Droz has created three new Paillonné enamel models: a 39 mm Petite Heure Minute, a 50 mm pocket watch and a 43 mm Grande Seconde. Each of the dials is graced with the floral theme motif, blued steel hands and ultramarine dial. The cases are made of red gold, while the alligator straps arrive in two options: either blue or black.
Jaquet Droz The Pocket Watch Paillonné (reference number J080033040) features a blue Grand Feu paillonné-enameled dial nested in a red gold case. The watch utilizes Jaquet Droz 2615, hand-winding mechanical movement, which runs on 40 hours of power reserve. The caliber beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, driving the hands of the off-centered hours and minutes indicator, as well as the large seconds subdial.
Jaquet Droz The Pocket Watch Paillonné measures 50 mm diameter and it arrives in a special limited edition of 8 pieces. The individual limited serial number of each watch from the series is engraved on the case-back. The watch is mounted on an 18-carat red gold chain.
Jaquet Droz Petite Heure Minute Paillonné (reference number J005013240) is another red gold model fitted with a blue Grand Feu paillonné-enameled dial. This automatic wristwatch utilizes Jaquet Droz 2653 self-winding mechanical movement, equipped with a double barrel and a 22-carat white gold oscillating weight. The high-frequency movement, which is built on 30 jewels, beats at a frequency of 28,800 v.p.h, and runs on 68 hours of power reserve.
The watch measures 39mm in diameter, it features an off-centered hours and minutes counter and an individual limited serial number engraved on the case-back. Jaquet Droz Petite Heure Minute Paillonné is mounted on a rolled-edge hand-made black alligator leather strap with an 18-carat red gold ardillon buckle.
Finally, there is Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Paillonné wristwatch (reference number J003033391), is a large 43mm automatic timepiece nested in a red gold case. The Grande Seconde model is powered by Jaquet Droz 2663, self-winding mechanical movement, which features a double barrel and a 22-carat white gold oscillating weight.
The watch beats at a frequency of 28,800 v.p.h and runs on 68 of power reserve, driving the hands of the off-centered hours and minutes counter, and a large seconds subdial. The Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Paillonné is mounted on a rolled-edge hand-made black alligator leather strap and each of its iterations features a limited serial number engraved on the case-back.
