In 2019, the famous fictional superhero Batman celebrates its 80th anniversary, and Swiss watchmaker RJ is joining in the festivities in the newly opened Galeries Lafayette Champ s - Élysées concept store in Paris. The watchmaker, famous for its Batman-inspired watch series, has created two unique versions of its ARRAW timepiece the ARRAW Two-Face and ARRAW The Joker. The collection named RJ X Batman Villains will be on display at the concept store from the 2nd to the 22nd of September. The watches are designed in collaboration with DC Comics, and they combine high-end watchmaking and the iconic spirit of DC Entertainment. RJ X Batman Villains collection, comprising Joker and Two-Face editions, each limited to only 100 pieces, will be presented in the ARRAW watch cases.
ARRAW The Joker is inspired by the namesake comic strip villain. The watch is housed in a 44mm-diameter titanium case crowned by a titanium bezel. The bezel features RJ’s iconic rubber bumpers and, for this edition, it is specially engraved with a chaotic Joker motif. The dial is a stylistic reinterpretation of the Joker’s face, with two ARRAW hands tipped with playing card “Aces.” The reverse reveals a titanium medallion laser-engraved with a portrait of the Joker. ARRAW The Joker watch comes with three interchangeable straps: two brightly colored alligator leather straps in green or purple, and a full-rubber black strap. The straps can be easily swapped by pressing the Batman logo-engraved screws on the lugs. Each watch is delivered with an exclusive deck of Joker playing cards.
The RJ ARRAW The Joker (1C45C.TTTR.0629.AR.JOK18) is powered by the RJ2042 self-winding mechanical chronograph bidirectional movement with central hours and minutes, small seconds at 3 o’clock, central chronograph hand, 30 minute counter at 9 o’clock, and date window at 6 o’clock. The movement beats at 4Hz, ensuring about 42 hours of power reserve. Water resistant to 100 meters. PRICE: EUR 13,600 without taxes.
ARRAW Two-Face is dedicated to Gotham City’s district attorney, who used to be one of Batman’s closest allies. He was later attacked by sulphuric acid, which scarred half of his face, and eventually led him to insanity. His face split, just like his personality, as the newborn character Two-Face became obsessed with the concepts of duality, chance and good versus evil.
The ARRAW Two-Face watch features a distressed outer bezel, which is, just like a leather strap, structured along the right-hand side to echo the symmetrical disfiguring of Two-Face. The left side conveys a laser-engraved coin, which Two-Face famously flips to make life and death decisions. The coin also serves as a rotating seconds hand. The manual skeleton movement is also half-exposed and housed in a satin-brushed 45 mm titanium ARRAW case. The watch is mounted on a calf leather strap designed to have one clean and one distressed side. Each watch from this 100-piece series comes with an exclusive double-headed coin.
The RJ ARRAW Two-Face (1C45S.TTTR.5023.AR.TWF18) is powered by the mechanical manual winding skeleton movement RJ004-M. The movement offers central hours and minutes functionality, and small seconds at 9 o’clock. It beats at a frequency of 4Hz, providing around 48 hours of power reserve. Water resistant to 100 meters.
