Romain Jerome introduces a 9 piece limited edition inspired by vanities and time passing.
The independent Swiss brand, notable for its exploration of the 80’s Skulls n’ wheels trend, offers yet another imaginative interpretation of skulls. The new series is a hat tip to the custom of placing skulls on cars' wheels, rim and hubcap, originating from street culture, and mostly skateboarding. The new limited edition model unites main aesthetic and technical features of the Skylab 48 Speed Metal, while offering a bold contrast between the black PVD case and the steel claws and paws.
The steel surfaces have been satin-brushed and polished, to create an illusion of depth and dimension. The most distinctive detail is the new satin-brushed integral bezel with sneering skulls replacing the indexes. The vibrant red skulls painted in cold enamel are some sort of a Memento Mori, reminding us of time passing and our own mortality.
The skeleton watch movement is built on 3 levels, is visible from the front side of the watch. It was entirely designed and developed by Romain Jerome. The black chrome mechanism, RJ004-M, features a small seconds module at 9 o’clock, while its barrel remains visible at 12 o’clock position. The balance wheel is also completely unveiled, and visible at 6 o’clock position. The movement is mounted on 21 jewels, and it beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The watch runs on 48 hours of power reserve, and is water resistant to 30 meters of depth. A blue-emission SuperLuminova on hour and minute hands ensures perfect readability in low light conditions.
Romain Jerome Skylab 48 Speed Metal Skulls, reference number RJ.M.AU.030.03, is mounted on a black hornback crocodile strap with red stitching and steel folding clasp. This limited edition timepiece is available for purchase and it retails at CHF 18’950, EUR 20’950, or USD 23’500 – depending on the market.
