One of the five new Rolex models unveiled at this year’s BaselWorld watch and jewellery trade show.
One of the most successful models introduced in 2011 is definitely the new Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer II 216570. The story about Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer starts back in 1953. The Explorer watches were developed exclusively for explorers who would navigate rough terrain, such as the world famous Mount Everest expeditions. One of them was held in 1953, when Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reached the summit of Mount Everest, equipped with Rolex Oyster Perpetual watches. The line of Explorer watches honors men's greatest achievements, and ever since 1950's, the line is constantly developed and improved in the terms of sturdiness and reliability.
The first ever Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer II was developed in 1971, marking the new generation of Explorer watches now for the first time equipped with graduation bezel, date indication and 24-hour hand. The 24-hour display is especially useful for airplane pilots, astronauts, military, cavernous explorers, and anyone in the need to distinguish day from night. This type of watch has an hour hand that completes a revolution every 24 hours, showing the time in 24-hour format.
In 2011, Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer celebrates its 40th anniversary, and it has never been more superior than now. The case of a watch is now a bit larger, featuring 42 millimeters in diameter, and crafted in polished and satin finished stainless steel. It is powered by the brand new Rolex calibre 3187, developed and produces by the brand. This is one of the most technically advanced movements that uses the latest patented technologies of Rolex: non-magnetic blue PARACHROM hairspring and high-performance PARAFLEX shock absorbers. The movement is built on 31 jewels and allows for 48 hours of power reserve. It is sealed against ingress of water, and provides 100 meters of water resistance.
The watch is available in two basic variations: fitted with White lacquered CHROMALIGHT display, or with a Black, satin finished CHROMALIGHT display, both with long-lasting luminescence. The dial reveals an additional hand on the dial that makes it easy to display the time in multiple time zones. The independent rapid setting of the hour hand allows for quick and accurate adjustment. The watch is mounted on a bracelet equipped with a new OysterLock clasp with safety catch and the EasyLink comfort extension link.

Introducing the first Rolex Tourbillon
True Rolex aficionados often wonder why Rolex doesn’t seem to make any tourbillon watches. Despite being a globally recognized status symbol, in terms of complications Rolex doesn’t compete with haute horlogerie brands such as Breguet or Vacheron Constantin. The brand focuses on creating reliable, precise watches that pretty much resemble their original models. It seems that Rolex builds watches based on its own heritage, and tourbillon movements are simply not something that Rolex ever pioneered or tried to incorporate. However, something t...
Rolex GMT Master II for BaselWorld 2018
For BaselWorld 2018, Rolex revisits its iconic GMT model and gives it two distinctive bezel designs: the “Pepsi” colorway – borrowed from the original GMT from 1950’s – and the 1970’s “Rootbeer” design. The legendary Pepsi design was first reintroduced a couple of days ago on a precious white gold model. This year, it makes a notable return on a more affordable stainless steel version, together with a couple of innovative features – the bezel with a graduated two-color Cerachrom insert and a Jubilee five-link bracelet. Two other new versions...
