The house of TAG Heuer celebrates the 100th birthday of its famous Carrera Mikrograph.
It was in 1916, when TAG Heuer’s legendary "Micrograph", the world's first stopwatch with a precision of 1/100 seconds, was registered for a patent. To mark this special occasion, TAG Heuer introduces the Carrera Micrograph chronograph in an exclusive 100-piece limited edition, distinguished by a white lacquered dial, painted numerals, and a design strongly influenced by the vintage chronographs of the past.

To make this special release even more interesting, TAG Heuer has designed a three removable supports: a TAG Heuer Carrera case, a table support, or a base for fixing to the dashboard of a classic car. The watch itself is an automatic chronograph displaying 1/100 of a second via a central hand, which is Edouard Heuer’s famous horological innovation. In its modern-day rendition, the Carrera Micrograph unites revolutionary technology and functional design of the sports timekeeping instruments of the 1920s. This accurate, extremely legible and robust timepiece features a prominent ridged crown at 12 o’clock and distinctive mushroom-shaped pushpieces.

The white lacquered dial with crisp black painted numerals and indices, evokes the classic chronographs from the beginning of the 20th century. A vintage Heuer logo is also placed on the dial, along the proud inscription "Made in Switzerland." Keeping up with the vintage inspiration, the hands for the chronograph indications are made from blued steel, while rounded leaf-shaped hour and minute hands resemble the ones typically seen on the watches from the 1920’s.

TAG Heuer Carrera Mikrograph Anniversary Edition desktop stand
TAG Heuer Carrera Mikrograph Anniversary edition is powered by the famous calibre Mikrograph 1/100 second automatic chronograph with date, which made its debut in 2011. This is the world’s first mechanical chronograph with integrated column wheel displaying 1/100 of a second using a central hand. The 480-component calibre incorporates two mechanisms: one for the time, the other for the chronograph. Each of them is powered by its own barrel and transmission and escapement system. The first mechanism, powering the hours, minutes, small seconds, and date, beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a power reserve of 42 hours. The second mechanism, which controls the 1/100 second chronograph, works on 90-hour power reserve, and has a frequency of 360,000 vibrations. A power reserve indication is visible at 9 o'clock, a date window appears at 4:30, a chronograph 30-minute counter is at 12 o'clock, while a seconds counter occupies a 3 o’clock position.

As already mentioned, TAG Heuer Carrera Mikrograph Anniversary Edition is a modular timepiece based on a bayonet mounting system. The watch can be housed in a TAG Heuer Carrera case, placed on a table, or screwed onto a car dashboard. The case-back of the watch is transparent, and it allows a glimpse into the magic of the movement, and especially its oscillating weight and titanium carbide-coated bridges decorated with Côtes de Genève.
