Ulysse Nardin extends its Marine Torpilleur Collection with two contemporary new pieces. A new generation chronometer named after small, fast ships of the past, arrives in two beautiful new editions – a rose gold with black and gold dial; and a Boutique-only version in stainless steel with grey dial. The Marine Torpilleur is a less formal, more contemporary take on Ulysse Nardin’s iconic Marine Chronometer. Even though it is strongly influenced by the Maison’s breakthrough innovations of the 19th century, Marine Torpilleur is actually aimed at a younger clientele.
Initially launched with white or blue dials, Marine Torpilleur now arrives in black and gunmetal grey versions. Same as their predecessors, the two new editions are housed in 42 mm-wide cases. However, the cases are now completely redesigned, with lighter, more elongated lugs, a thinner fluted fixed bezel, and a much thinner flange framing the dial.
The dials are punctuated by crisp, elongated Roman numerals. The poire-styled hands are rendered in rose gold, as are the ‘Haut’ (high) and ‘Bas’ (low) indications of the power reserve. The lower portion of the dial is reserved for the small seconds counter which appears at 6 o’clock position, embracing the date window and the 1846 insignia. The latter is a charming nod to the year the house of Ulysse Nardin was established.
The Ulysse Nardin Marine Torpilleur is powered by the in-house calibre UN-118. This automatic movement features about 60 hours of power reserve and employs a number of new echnologies such as the Silicium anchor escapement, inertial balance wheel and inertial balance wheel with silicium hairspring. Its haute horlogerie finishing can be admired through the sapphire case-back.
The Marine Torpilleur is worn on an alligator leather strap with a folding buckle in either steel or rose gold. The boutique edition stainless steel Marine Torpilleur (1183-310/42-BQ) is priced at CHF 6,900 (steel), while the rose gold version (1182-310/42) comes with a price tag of CHF 17,900.
