To celebrate the opening of its first store in Paris, Vacheron Constantin launches the exclusive 1972 model with iconic asymmetrical case.
Vacheron Constantin 1972 Prestige is a new men’s watch inspired by the original asymmetrical watch from the 1972. The distorted case of this model, introduced more than fifty years ago, was remarkably daring for its time. The innovative shape that follows the ratio of the golden section was, since then, offered in various sizes and proportions, for both women and men. The constellation of different asymmetrical models has, with time, developed into the famous 1972 collection.
The new 1972 Prestige celebrates two occasions almost equally important to the brand. First of all, the men’s version of the timeless model is created to celebrate the opening of the brand’s first store in Paris, located at 2 Rue de la Paix. However, not far from this location, back on June 23, 1972, in the Ritz Hotel, the Comité de France honored Vacheron Constantin with the Prestige de la France award. The new 1972 Prestige model tributes the rich heritage of the brand while, at the same time, celebrates the new milestone in its history.
Vacheron Constantin 1972 Prestige retains the proportions of the historic model, sculptured in accordance to the principles of the golden section. We can demonstrate this geometric relationship, a symbol of harmonious proportions, if we take the dimension of the longest side of the case and divide it by length of the sapphire crystal on the opposite side. The result is 1.618 – the value of the famous golden ratio (φ).
The new 1972 is decorated with Prestige de la France engraving on the case-back, and it uses a mechanical hand-wound movement, just as it did back in 1972. The mechanism is Vacheron Constantin’s Calibre 1003, which was introduced back in 1955. This is still the thinnest mechanical hand-wound movements available on the market - only 1.64 mm thick. On this occasion, Vacheron Constantin has made the finishing on the movement even more sophisticated thanks to the bridges and the plate made of 18-carat gold. The movement is composed of 117 parts, it beats at 18,000 vibrations per hour, while providing no less than 30 hours of power reserve.
Vacheron Constantin 1972 Prestige is issued in two variants: grey dial with a delicate herringbone guilloche motif and rose gold hands, as well as the limited edition, comprising of only 40 pieces, with a sliver dial and geometrical guilloche pattern. The case measures 25mm x 47mm in proportions and it is water resistant to up to 30 meters.
Vacheron Constantin 1972 Prestige is issued under the reference number 33172/000G-9775 and it is one of the brand’s Hallmark of Geneva certified timepieces. The watch is a boutique exclusive, priced somewhere at 30.000 euros.
