Vacheron Constantin revamps one of its historical watches, reference 6087, which is today one of the most sought-after models among watch collectors. The reference 6087, better known as Cornes de vache, or Cow horns, is the Maison’s first water-resistant chronograph launched in 1955. As part of its Historique Collection, the brand reissues Cornes the vache model in steel.

Reference 6087
The original Cornes de vache watch is one of the pieces most desired by collectors, due to its very limited production. Vacheron Constantin’s first water-resistant chronograph was powered by manual-winding Calibre 492. In addition to a double-pusher chronograph feature, it also had a dial with 30-minute and small seconds counters.
As an everlasting source of inspiration, Cornes de vache model was already reissued in platinum in 2015 and 18K 4N pink gold in 2016. This year, it returns in a stainless steel version, with a bit larger, more contemporary-sized case. Instead of the original 35mm-diameter, the case now measures 38.5mm across. Remaining faithful to the original design, the watch features its distinctive cow horn-like lugs securing the case to the strap. The vintage-styled, patinated leather strap is produced by the old Milanese luxury leather goods Maison, Serapian, established in 1928. The second loop of the dark brown calf leather strap is treated to the ‘attacco’ shape featured on Serapian handbag handles.
The Historiques Cornes de vache 1955 is powered by the manual-winding 1142 chronograph calibre, offering a 48-hour power reserve. The movement, assembled from 164 components, is beating at a rate of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3Hz). The chronograph function is controlled by a column-wheel, while the sapphire crystal on the back of the case allows the movement to be admired. The model offers timekeeping functions including small seconds, as well as a chronograph with a central seconds hand and minute counter. There’s also a tachymeter scale to calculate average speed over a known distance. All functions are appearing on a grey velvet-finish opaline dial, embellished with two snailed counters and a white counter.
