Ahead of the SIHH 2017, Vacheron Constantin gives us a sneak preview of the new Patrimony Moon Phase and Retrograde Date model, which will be officially unveiled in November 2016.
The new timepiece, certified by the Hallmark of Geneva, houses a new self-winding Manufacture Vacheron Constantin Caliber 2460 R31L, which keeps track of the cycle and the age of the moon, and also provides a retrograde date indication.
This harmonious, elegantly round timepiece, is inspired by Vacheron Constantin’s vintage models from the 1950’s. The main feature of its design is a pure simplicity and a minimalist aesthetics. The pure, understated face of the watch reveals a romantic complication at 6 o’clock, and a retrograde date indication graduated from 1 to 31, across the upper dial curve. All adjustments are performed via the crown, which ensures the ultimate ease of use and functionality.
Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Moon Phase and Retrograde Date is available in two versions – from either pink or white gold. Depending on the version, the moon indicator appears on a pink or white gold disc, placed against a star-spangled backdrop. The age of the moon, expressed in the number of days that have elapsed since the last young moon, can be read off from the graduated scale surrounding the moon phase indicator. As any other mechanical complication of this kind, it requires a single correction once in every 122 years.
The retrograde date display, visible in the upper portion of the dial, is paired with a black-oxide-treated hand tipped with an openworked arrow. The hand advances in one-day increments and, once it reaches the last day of the month, it magically jumps back to its original position. The silvered opaline dial features applied hour markers and hands in precious pink or white gold, as well as a circular pearl minute track. Vacheron Constantin’s recognizable insignia – the Maltese cross, also appears at the 12 o’clock position.
The new Manufacture Vacheron Constantin Caliber 2460 R31L is assembled from 275 individual parts and adorned with 27 jewels. The movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, ensuring around 40 hours of power reserve. The see-through case back reveals the 22-karat gold oscillating weight decorated with the Maltese cross symbol, the handcrafted finishing of the caliber, and the dazzle of its jewels.
Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Moon Phase and Retrograde Date is water resistant to 30 meters of depth. The model is mounted on either black or brown Mississippiensis alligator leather strap with a polished half Maltese cross-shaped buckle in matching material. The model is priced at $39,900 USD.
