The house of Zenith introduces its latest creation, a gorgeous gold-clad timepiece designed in honor of its partnership with the legendary cigar brand Cohiba. For this special limited edition, Zenith has chosen to rework its sophisticated Academy Christophe Colomb model, which is distinguished by its Gravity Control gyroscopic module. The breathtaking creation, that beautifully bridges the gap between technical sophistication and fine artistry, is issued in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Cohiba. Earlier this year, to mark the same occasion, Zenith released the El Primero Chronomaster 1969 Cohiba Limited Edition, boasting a Havana brown dial and emblematic Cohiba insignia.
The new Zenith Academy Christophe Colomb Tribute to Cohiba comprises five unique pieces created in Zenith’s workshops, each featuring a hand-engraved and enameled Havana gold dial featuring a tobacco leaf motif. Zenith’s most skillful engravers have reproduced the texture and feel of a tobacco leaf with a meticulous attention to detail. The amber colored dial is nestled underneath a domed sapphire crystal and framed by a matching rose gold case.
The case, measuring 45mm in diameter, houses the extraordinary Manufacture movement that combines two separate mechanisms. The hand-wound El Primero 8804 calibre, which is the watch’s regulating organ, beats at a high frequency of 36,000 VpH, enabling tenth of a second accurate measurements. On the other hand, there is a patented Gravity Control gyroscopic module, which cancels out the effects of gravity on the watch. The movement is assembled from 308 individual parts, 171 of which are used for the gyroscopic module. It features off-centered hours and minutes functions, small seconds indicator, and a 50-hour power reserve indicator.
Zenith Academy Christophe Colomb Tribute to Cohiba, reference number 18.2214.8804/95.C713, is mounted on a brown alligator rubber-lined strap with a rose gold triple folding clasp. The watch is presented in an exclusive presentation box, which also doubles as a tobacco case. Water resistant to 30 meters of depth.
