Zenith presents its new El Primero Stratos Spindrift racing, the ultimate sports watch with two different faces – one in rose gold and the other in DLC-coated stainless steel.
As the official timekeeper for Spindrift racing, Zenith has developed the new El Primero Stratos model to honor the young racing team that takes part in a legendary solo transatlantic crossing on the world’s biggest ocean-going trimaran. The El Primero Stratos Spindrift Racing, which is created with adventure in mind, utilizes the brand’s iconic El Primero chronograph movement that makes it capable of measuring short intervals of time, up to the 1/10th of a second precision. The elegant yet technical dial of the El Primero Stratos Spindrift Racing features an irregular aperture above the escapement, at 10 o’clock position. This is the first time ever that the Stratos model comes with an openworked dial. Another particularity of this model is its inner bezel inscribed with the words “Spindrift racing” at 12 o’clock. The inner flange features the telemetric scale, which helps the wearer to calculate the distance of an object, based on the sound perceived. Another nod to the racing team can be found on the oscillating weight, which is engraved with the inscription and the team logo.
Zenith El Primero Stratos Spindrift Racing is powered by the automatic El Primero 4061 chronograph movement, which features a silicon lever and escape-wheel. This innovative anti-magnetic material is often used in modern-day movements of superior quality, as it makes the whole mechanism more resistant to wear and tear, without any need for lubrication. The movement beats at: 36,000 vibrations per hour, it is fitted with a column wheel and provides around 50 hours of power reserve. The oscillating weight is decorated with Côtes de Genève motif, and it bears the inscriptions “Zenith El Primero” on one side and “for Spindrift racing” on the other.
In addition to central hours and minutes, the El Primero movement animates the small seconds counter at 9 o’clock, as well as two chronograph counters: the 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, and the 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock. The long central hand is the chronograph seconds hand, and runs only when the wearer pushes the start button.
Zenith El Primero Stratos Spindrift Racing is available in two versions: rose gold and DLC titanium, paired with a black dial, or an all-black DLC variant with a carbon fiber dial. Both watches measure 45 mm in diameter and they are 14,10 mm thick. The dials are fitted with gold- or black nickel-plated hour-markers enhanced with black Superluminova, and with the matching hands – gold for the pink gold version, and nickel-plated for the all-black variant. The watch is water resistant to 100 meters, and it comes mounted on a fabric-clad rubber strap with triple-blade folding clasp.
