The new 1966 Tourbillon will certainly repeat the success of the company from 2008, when the brand presented a constant force escapement at the SIHH, designed to give exact measured impulses to a balance and hairspring or a pendulum, and thus avoid changes in rate caused by variations in the driving force.
The new timepiece comes with milky white dial painted with Brequet Arabic numerals. It is very classy and has a vintage appeal, reminding of a tourbillon pocket watch. The blued leaf-shaped hands flow seamlessly along the 40 millimeter wide dial, nested in a perfectly round golden case. The case-back is fastened by six screws and reveals hand-engraved decoration, as the company used to do back in the 19th century. The engraving, in a spirit of manufacture’s tradition, bares Girard-Perregaux’s insignia and each piece’s individual number. The timepiece will be available in an edition of 50 individually-numbered pieces.
The watch utilizes a Girard-Perregaux 9610 movement, composed of 224 individual parts, and decorated in the spirit of old fashioned pocket tourbillons. The tourbillon in the bassiné style consists of a central cage and two rounded off arms of the bridge. The very tourbillon is composed of 72 individual components, and it has no more than a centimeter in diameter. It is amazingly light, as it weighs only 0.3 grams. The small seconds function is available on the tourbillon.
The -watch is mechanical and has a self –winding movement, able to provide 48 hours of power reserve. It is mounted on the genuine alligator strap with a pin buckle. The watch is water resistant to 30 meters, or 3 ATM, and suitable for everyday use.
