The symbol of a dragon has for long been one of the most prominent symbols of Chinese culture. Dragons have been regarded as the representatives of the primal forces of nature, associated with wisdom, power, and cosmic harmony. Yellow or golden dragons with five claws on each foot were a symbol of the emperor in ancient Chinese dynasties, and people also believed that an Emperor is born with a dragon-shaped birthmark. Jaquet Droz’s watch is inspired by the very same Imperial Dragon, representing spiritual authority. The pearl, depicted on the dial, is often found on images of dragons and thought to be a symbolic representation of the “sacred pearl.” It actually represents the wisdom, yang energy, truth, as well as the wisdom of the Emperor and the virtue of his choices.

It takes no less than a week to complete the paintwork on enamel, blending the miniscule flakes of gold with the pigment to create dazzling fiery hue. The scene dominates the dial, pushing away hours and minutes counter to an off-centered position. Classic Roman numerals and crisp hands are crafted in gold, while the mechanical self-winding double-barrel movement animates the watch.
This piece is issued in a numbered limited edition of 88 pieces. Each of the watches from this series features a power reserve of 68 hours and water resistance down to 30 meters. The watches are mounted on and-made brown alligator strap.
