On the occasion of the SIHH 2015 exhibition, Audemars Piguet unveiled its new, imaginative timepiece, a spectacular haute joaillerie watch named Diamond Punk.
Audemars Piguet Diamond Punk model is inspired by the design codes of the punk era, its unique and complex aesthetic. The Diamond Punk Haute Joaillerie cuff timepiece, which features a breaking pattern of pyramid studs, is set with over 8,000 diamonds. A total of 7.848 snow-set diamonds defines the sharp geometries of the complex bracelet, which is assembled from 56 dazzling pyramid facets, while a secret sliding cover slips to reveal a hidden dial set with additional 300 diamonds. The Audemars Piguet Diamond Punk is a piece unique, and also a secret watch, which can be worn as a diamond bracelet. This stunning cuff watch not only exemplifies the best of traditional savoir-faire of Le Brassus, but also revisits the tradition of "secret" watches, which allowed 19th century ladies to check the time in a discreet fashion.
The watchmakers, designers, jewelers and gem-setters of Audemars Piguet had joined their forces to create this stunning one-of-a-kind watch, which was one of the most challenging tasks ever set before them. The final creation is the result of no less than 1,440 hours of work. The Diamon Punk model is available in two different variants. The first one, reference 79418BC.ZZ.9188BC.01, is graced with 7,848 brilliant-cut diamonds (approximately 33.35 carats) on the case and the bracelet + additional 300 brilliant cut diamonds (around 0.92 carats) on the dial. The second version, reference 79419BC.ZO.9189BC.01, contrasts the bright shine of diamonds with onyx elements. It features 5,326 brilliant-cut diamonds, of about 21.66 carats and 56 onyx elements, on its case and bracelet, plus additional 300 brilliant-cut diamonds, of about 0.92 carats, on its dazzling dial.
Both watches are made of 18-karat white gold and fitted with an 18-carat white gold dial, snow-set, with blued gold hands. The quartz Calibre 2601 powers the simple functions for hours and minutes, while beating at a frequency of 32,768 Hz. The watch measures 44 x 30 mm, and it isn’t water resistant. The Audemars Piguet Diamond Punk secret watch is priced at $753,800.
