For 2014, Audemars Piguet has introduced a number of new timepieces designed for strong, independent and self-assured women. This year also marks the launch of Audemars Piguet’s second Haute Joaillerie timepiece, a watch that was officially unveiled on the occasion of SIHH 2014 exhibition.
Same as the debut watch from Audemars Piguet Haute Joaillerie collection, the new Haute Joaillerie timepiece is an inspiring statement of the Manufacture’s expertise and its mastery production sophisticated women’s watches. This requires an entirely different array of skills, since the movement needs to be compact enough to fit inside much smaller case, which is, along with the dial, typically embellished using a whole spectrum of decorative arts. Audemars Piguet’s second Haute Joaillerie watch was created by the team of designers, gem-setters, engravers and watchmakers, who have joined their forces to create the cosmos-inspired diamond watch.
Audemars Piguet’s Haute Joaillerie watch for 2014, is an unusual watch that blends Art Nouveau’s free-flowing lines with Art Deco’s geometric architecture. The watch is crafted entirely in white gold and set with no less than 449 white diamonds. Its golden dial depicts the celestial background with a series of shooting stars whose visible paths continue outside the margins of the dial. The case is embellished with hanging diamond charms that are set in motion with every movement of the wrist.
The bracelet is made from two diamond-encrusted ribbons, which are sculpted in the shape of the classic geometric Greek Key design. The pattern, also known as a meander, is a symbol of infinity and unity, formed from a continuous ribbon, shaped into a repeated motif. The ribbons are crisscrossing their way around the wrist, and parting when they reach the dial, to break the symmetry of the bracelet.
Audemars Piguet’s Haute Joaillerie watch for 2014, is exceptionally large for a watch of its kind. It measures 28.5 mm across and features a manual winding in-house movement Calibre 3091. The mechanism (visible through the sapphire crystal on the case-back) beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour, guarantees 48 hours of power reserve, at a minimum, and provides indications for hours and minutes. This delicate creation is water resistant to 20 meters, and it is referenced as 79417BC.ZZ.9184BC.01.
