BaselWorld 2017 Preview
Ahead of this year's Baselworld watch and jewelry show, Bell & Ross announces the launch of its two new watches, the BR03-92 Horograph and the limited edition Horolum. Both new models fit perfectly in the Maison's family of watch instruments, which is immediately recognized by its iconic square cases and graphic lines. This time, however, the BR 03-92 instruments feature some discrete updates to the classic professional aviation design.
Their modern cases, modeled after Bell & Ross's iconic „circle within a square,“ are inspired by clocks in aircraft cockpits. A minimalist Bauhaus-inspired design is rendered following the principles of industrial aesthetics. Shape is here induced by function, and simplicity serves the utilitarian, to display time with the utmost efficiency. The simple lines of these watches, based on a square case, underline the essential in timekeeping. Their names share the common root “Horo”, from the Latin “Hora” (hour), followed by “Graph” (graphics) or “Lum”, from the Latin “Lumen” (light).
Bell & Ross BR03-92 Horograph reminds of the clocks in airport terminals. Its simple, uncluttered display features a graphic dial with clear digits. The watch features a square micro-blasted steel case obtained by high-pressure spraying of tiny glass beads onto the surface of the metal. The rough, silvery case is matte and therefore anti-reflective. It measures 42mm on both sides, holding a simple black dial with baton indexes and baton-shaped hands. Its white indexes and hands are set against the contrasting black backdrop, which contributes to even better readability. The BR03-92 Horograph is mounted on a black rubber and ultra-resistant black synthetic fabric strap.
Bell & Ross BR03-92 Horolum is inspired by the codes of lighting in the runway, used to guide pilots night and day. Its case (42x42mm) is also made from micro-blasted steel, while the sandwich type dial is formed by two superimposed metal plates. The gray upper layer is cut away around numerals and indices, revealing the bottom plate coated with green-tinted SuperLuminova. This photoluminescent material is ultra-phosphorescent and lasts a long time in the dark, allowing for persistent reading of the time, even at night. The BR03-92 Horolum is paired with a grey-green calfskin and ultra-resistant black synthetic fabric strap.
Both new models are powered by mechanical automatic movement, calibre BR-CAL.302, which has a 38-hour power reserve and operates on 25 jewels. The movement, which is basically Sellita SW300-1, provides functions for hours, minutes, seconds and date. Both of these new variations on the BR03-92 retail for $3,400, and both are water resistant to 100 meters.
