Breguet Classique 5717 Hora Mundi

Marina Milojević | 04.11.11 | 03:50 AM

The Classique Hora Mundi, a revolutionary new model in 2011, continues Breguet’s tradition of continual innovation. Breguet is one of the rare watchmaking companies that stayed the course of fine watchmaking and continued to surprise the audience with refined highly complicated pieces.

The Breguet Classique Hora Mundi is the world’s first mechanical watch with an instant-jump time-zone display and a memory featuring synchronized date, day & night and city indications. As a member of the Classiques collection, the new piece truly represents Breguet’s traditional values of watchmaking art. This watch is a perfect companion for frequent travelers who value fine watchmaking, since it has a function that allows the traveler to easy display the time in two pre-set time zones. A simple push on a button switches between the zones, never sacrificing the accuracy of time telling. Moreover, the date indication is automatically adjusted, to inform the wearer about the exact date in each of the time zones.

The first Hora Mundi watch was introduced in1996, as a part of the Marine line. The newest piece is quite different and visually advanced, featuring the completely original date display that uses a dragging disc featured at 12 o’clock. The dragging calendar is equipped with a tiny retrograde hand, which is hidden behind the dial. Only the tip of the hand, shaped like a small circle, surrounds the date as soon as it appears at the left side of the date window. At midnight, the hand jumps back to the left side of the window to embrace the new date.

The watch is equipped with the 5717 self-winding mechanical movement, based on Calibre 777 with a silicon escapement. The watch is fitted with 43 jewels, and provides 55 hours of power reserve. The oscillating weight is crafted in 18-carat gold and hand-engraved on a rose engine.

The movement is nested in 44 mm wide and 13.50 mm thick case made of 18-carat red gold or 950 platinum. The watch has a sapphire protection on the front and a transparent sapphire case-back. There are three versions of dials available, representing the Americas, the European and African continents. The center of a dial is depicting a view of the globe, stamped and hand-engraved to create the wave effect on the oceans. On the day&night indicator, the sky is made of lapis lazuli, a relatively rare semi-precious stone that has been prized since antiquity for its intense blue color. The stone contains numerous pyrite inclusions that shine like discrete specks of gold, representing the starry sky. The sun and moon are made of solid gold: yellow gold for the sun, rhodium -plated yellow gold for the moon.

The cover for this disc is shaped like a cloud, with Breguet’s name hand-engraved along with the watch’s serial number. The watch is water resistant to 30 meters and completed with brown alligator leather strap.
