Earlier this year, the house of Carl F. Bucherer introduced the special edition Patravi Scubatec. This time, the famous diver is benefiting a noble cause – to help reverse the extinction of the manta rays, one of the most sensitive of all ocean creatures. Part of the proceeds of this exclusive watch, which retails for € 6400, will be donated to the Manta Trust charity that co-ordinates global research and conservation efforts for manta rays, their close relatives and their habitat. This particular contribution is specifically designated for research on manta ray’s movement patterns.
The new Patravi ScubaTec Black Manta Special Edition is a serious diving instrument, water resistant to no less than 500 meters (50 bar/1,640 ft). This COSC-certified chronometer is crafted from featherweight titanium, and it measures 44.60 mm across. The natural shade of titanium is hidden behind the black DLC coating so it matches the finely ribbed dial decorated with two gold silhouettes of manta rays. Two oversized arrow-shaped hands and large indexes are covered in crisp white blue-emission Super-LumiNova, ensuring the perfect legibility even in the ocean depths.
The titanium case is topped by a unidirectional bezel made of titanium and ceramic. An automatic helium release valve is integrated into the case to prevent any accidental damage to the watch during resurfacing. The solid case-back reveals the “Special Edition” inscription and the Black Manta embossing. Underneath is the in-house automatic movement, caliber 1950.1, which provides 38 hours of power reserve and hours, minutes, seconds and date functionality. The watch is paired with a rubber strap with recycled PET textile layer and a diving folding clasp in DLC-coated titanium.
The recommended retail price for Carl F. Bucherer Patravi Scubatec Black Manta Special Edition, reference 00.10632.28.33.99, is € 6400, or around $7.180 USD.
