The house of Chopard has started unveiling its Holiday 2019 Collection, which, in addition to jewlery and accessories, includes the new L.U.C XPS Spirit of Nature timepiece. Made from Fairmined-certified gold and mounted on a vegetable-tanned bracelet, this new model underlines the Maison’s ethical approach to watchmaking, while also paying a tribute to the beauty of the forest. The watch has a beautiful green dial adorned with a leaf-motif, created with stamping.
The watch case is made from a solid block of ethical ‘Fairmined’ certified gold, which is the purest type of gold mined responsibly in artisnal mines, where miners and the environment are treated with dignity and care. Since 2018, Chopard, the world’s largest purchaser of ethical gold, has extended the use of Fairmined gold to all its watch and jewellery production.
Chopard L.U.C XPS Spirit of Nature is an ultra-thin watch that measures just 7.2mm in thickness. This was made possible by using an extra-plat L.U.C 96.12-L calibre. The automatic-winding mechanical movement features an engraved 22-carat gold micro-rotor, and a couple of stacked barrels for a 65-hour power reserve. The 4Hz movement is offcially certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Control (COSC), which speaks volumes about its great precision and accuracy.
In addition to the central display of hours and minutes, indicated by gilded Dauphine fusée-type hands, the Chopard L.U.C XPS Spirit of Nature also has a snailed small seconds display, situated at 6 o’clock. The dial and the movement are both protected by sapphire crystal, while the watch is water resistant to 30 meters. Visible from the transparent case-back is the hand-engraved golden micro-rotor and bridges adorned with Côtes de Genève.
Chopard L.U.C XPS Spirit of Nature is paired with a leather strap made of alligator leather certified by CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora). This carefully selected leather has been subjected to a vegetable tanning proces based on the bark of trees susch as oak and hazelnut.
