The famous independent watchmaker Christophe Claret has just unveiled his newest mechanical masterpiece for women – the Marguerite.
Christophe Claret Marguerite is introduced only a year after the watchmaker’s very first horological creation for women. On the occasion of the BaselWorld 2014, the house of Claret presented the Margot, a gorgeous floral-themed timepiece inspired by delicate daisies. This year’s creation – the Marguerite – takes its design cues from the Margot, while capturing the imagination with mechanical virtuosity.. Both watches feature a central daisy decoration with white lacquered petals.
Marguerite, which is a new member of the Margot collection, holds to the principles of romanticism. This beautiful poetic masterpiece, exclusively devoted to women, is interpreted in four versions. Each of them features two delicate butterflies as a joyful companion for the passing of time. The darker, which is the one that symbolizes the female, rotates around the dial every hour. The lighter one, which symbolizes the male, serves as a minute indicator. The butterflies are coated in blue, orange or red Super-LumiNova, depending on the version.
In addition to the Arabic numerals at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, the dial features a second display which reveals itself on demand. When a wearer pushes the button at 2 o’clock the numbers disappear to disclose the expression: “Il m’aime passionnément” (He loves me passionately). The changeover of the two dials is made possible thanks to a trick that has never before been incorporated into a watch. There are two superimposed disks: the metallized transparent sapphire upper disk bearing a mosaic of transparent squares, and a lower disk covered with another pad-printed black or blue glazed mosaic with the text and the numerals. The upper disk rotates over the fixed mother-of-pearl lower disk, while releasing the pusher makes the hour display reappear instantly.
The generously sized Christophe Claret Marguerite, which measures 42.50 mm in diameter, is available in either white or rose gold. Its case is decorated with two brand new types of setting – the flake setting, which is a more elegant rendition of the snow-setting technique, and the “champagne” setting with a hundred diamonds of different sizes. The watch is water resistant to 100 meters and it comes with either blue or red alligator leather strap.
The watch is powered by a self-winding Manufacture movement MT115 with a double barrel, which ensures no less than 72 hours of power reserve. The movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, it features no less than 245 components and 36 jewels. The sapphire case-back reveals its gracefully shaped oscillating weight, which is modeled like a daisy and set with eight rubies. Same as with the Margot, the wearer can indulge in “He loves me, he loves me not” game by placing a watch in a horizontal position. Following one or two undulating movements, the oscillating weight will turn for a few seconds while the ruby closest to the red-lacquered heart predicts – “yes” or “no” in the center.
Christophe Claret Marguerite in white or rose gold, “flake” or “champagne” set, is available in a 30-piece limited edition per version, from July 2015. In each of its renditions, the Marguerite watch is priced at 69,000 Swiss francs (ex VAT).
