Hamilton has released a celebratory version of the Ventura Elvis model. This time, the brand commemorates what would have been Elvis Presley's 80th birthday.
On January 8, 2015, Elvis' 80th birthday was celebrated around the world with remastered reissues of Presley's music for modern-day Elvis fans, and a new website called ElvisTheMusic.com. Graceland livestreamed the 80th birthday celebration, while Legacy Recordings partnered with Spotify to unveil the official music collection, the "#Elvis80: The Fan Favorites Playlist." The King of Rock ’n’ Roll’s favorite watchmaking brand has also decided to pay him a tribute with a special Hamilton Ventura Elvis 80 edition.

The relationship between Hamilton and Elvis Presley dates back to 1961, when Elvis got his first Hamilton Ventura watch. He wore it in the movie 'Blue Hawaii.' The distinctive arrow-shaped watch, which was launched in 1957, was the world’s first electrical, battery-powered watch. Elvis wore a yellow gold Ventura, and he had the original black and gold strap replaced with the more elegant metal bracelet. The only surviving Ventura with an undeniable link to Elvis is a white gold watch with black dial, which was sold at an auction in Graceland, in 1999. The Hamilton Watch Company bought it back, and it is now part of the brand’s museum collection.

Hamilton decided to bring back the Ventura in 1988, a quarter of a century after it had been discontinued. The modern day Venturas are powered with quartz movements, and their cases are not made of noble materials, but rather of stainless steel and ceramics. In its modern-day renditions, Venturas are available in smaller sized ladies’ versions and men’s variants with a chronograph movement.
Hamilton issued a special limited edition to celebrate the King’s 75th birthday in 2010, comprising two revamped models: a replica of the original 1950’s model – and a XXL automatic version. This year, the commemorative Hamilton Ventura Elvis returns to celebrate the King’s 80th birthday. The shield-shaped case is still here, but the brand has introduced some significant technical smooth improvements. The 2015 edition features the Hamilton’s proprietary H-10 movement, which promises up to 80 hours of power reserve. The unusual triangular case is finely finished with alternating and polished surfaces, while angular contouring has been replaced by more flowing lines.

The automatic version of Hamilton Ventura Elvis 80 watch is made of black PVD-coated stainless steel, and it measures 42.5x44.6. There are two versions available to choose from: mounted on a black rubber strap, or paired with a black leather strap with contrasting white stitching. The Hamilton Ventura Elvis 80 model also comes in three quartz variants. Two of them are also black PVD-coated stainless steel, while one stands out for its polished silvery color. The automatic versions are priced at $1,495 USD, 1425 CHF, or 1,295 EURO. The quartz model is $1,045, 995 CHF, 945 EURO.

HAMILTON Jazzmaster Face2Face
The most recent creation from the Hamilton Watch Company is a watch with two different personalities: one utterly classic and one avant-garde. This description certainly doesn’t sound reasonable until you take a look at this unusual creation and its unique rotating dial. The Hamilton Jazzmaster Face2face actually features two separate dials of which one is a “boy racer” chronograph, and the other is an elegant and classic three-hander. Each of the contrasting watch faces incorporates its own movement, which is fully visible from the back. This...
Hamilton Khaki X-Patrol
One of the watches from this year’s BaselWorld which I find especially interesting is the new Hamilton Khaki X-Patrol. This is another aviation-inspired watch by the American watch brand whose aviation heritage dates back to 1919. That was the year in which Hamilton’s aeronautical watch escorted the very first American airmail postal service between Washington and New York. Today the Hamilton range includes various aviation-inspired watches, and this particular one Hamilton Khaki X-Patrol, is the latest among them. Hamilton Khaki X-Patrol is...
