Ahead of the SIHH 2018, Hermès unveils what seems to be its sportiest watch release to date. The new Hermès Arceau Chrono Titane is the latest rendition of the recognizable Acreau, a watch designed by Hermès' legendary artistic director Henri D'Origny back in 1978. The new model joining the Acreau range has a chronograph function and a lightweight, yet sturdy titanium case.
The Hermès Arceau Chrono Titane retains Arceau’s emblematic round-shaped case with asymmetrical lugs inspired by stirrups, as well as transferred white Arabic numerals encircling the galvanic black dial. A minute track features a red bar for every minute and a red pip every five minutes. The central chronograph hand is also painted red, just as the running seconds hand at 3 o’clock position. There’s also a date window nestled between 4 and 5 o’clock.
The gunmetal grey case is crafted from bead-blasted grade 2 titanium and it measures 41mm in diameter, which is, by Hermès' standards a very large watch. The case is equipped with a sapphire crystal and rated to 30 meters of water resistance. It accommodates a Swiss-made automatic movement mounted on 37 jewels. Even though Hermès manufactures in-house movements, they do not make any chronographs on their own. Hermès has not specified what caliber it is, but we do know that it offers 42 hours of power reserve and beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour.
Hermès Arceau Chrono Titane is mounted on either a natural or a black embossed Barrenia calfskin strap. The watch will be available from February 2018, priced at $5,100. For more information, please visit hermes.com.
