On the occasion of the 2018 Laureus World Sports Awards in Monaco, the house of IWC, one of the main sponsors of the event, unveiled its new Pilot’s Watch Mark XVIII Edition “Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.” IWC’s involvement with Laureus began in 2005, and this year, the famous Swiss watchmaker presents the 12th Laureus special edition model to benefit the notable work of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.
This year, 2018, marks the 12th edition of IWC’s annual limited edition timepiece from which a portion of the proceeds goes to help support Laureus Sport for Good Foundation projects around the world. The latest addition to the Laureus range is a sporty elegant Pilot’s Watch Mark XVIII model made from black ceramic. The watch, measuring 41mm in diameter, has a recognizable “Laureus” blue dial that symbolizes hope. Two black hands sweeping across the dial are coated in rich layers of SuperLuminova, so they can be easily read in the dark.
The reverse side of the case reveals a solid medallion engraved with a drawing selected among competition entries in which young people from local Laureus projects participate. This year’s theme was “Time to Be Healthy”. The jury selected 11-year-old Ana Claudia’s drawing out of more than 1,000 submissions. Ana participates in a project of Instituto Reação in Brazil, an organization that helps improve the living conditions of Brazilian youth through education and sport.
IWC Pilot’s Watch Mark XVIII Edition “Laureus Sport for Good Foundation” is powered by the IWC caliber 35111 (Sellita SW300-1 base) beating at a frequency of 28,800 vph, and offering a 42-hour power reserve. The movement is protected from magnetic fields by a soft iron inner case, and the glass is secured against sudden drops in air pressure.
Like with every Laureus special edition, a part of the proceeds from the sales will be used to support Laureus Sport for Good projects. The watch (Ref. IW324703) is a limited edition of 1500 individually numbered pieces and it comes with a price tag of $5,650 USD (excluding taxes). More information at iwc.com.
