Laurent Ferrier Galet Square Regulateur Black

The Swiss high-end watch manufacture Laurent Ferrier introduces a new model – the Galet Square Régulateur Black. The newest creation combines a noble red gold square case with an opaline black dial – a color harmony cherished by Mr. Ferrier, a 37-year veteran of Patek Philippe and the founder of the brand. It comes in the cushion-shaped 42mm-wide case Galet Square case (pebble in English) that is fully mirror polished and equipped with the in-house micro rotor movement.

As its name suggests, the main feature of the watch is the regulator display with the hour and minute hands placed on different axes. This rarely seen complication stems from the past, when watchmakers would use a “master clock” against which all timepieces were set. In order to provide the most accurate readout at any given moment, a master clock, designed with precision and adjustment in mind, had hours and minute hands on separate axes so watchmakers were able to see both hands at once. This way, they were always able to read out the exact time, as the hands would cover each other.

Similar to these master clocks, a regulator watch features the hour and minute hand on separate dials. Like many other regulator models, the Galet Square Régulateur Black has a central minutes hand, a small hour display at the top of the dial, and a small seconds indicator at the bottom. The time is indicated in an intuitive way, using three red gold hands – a leaf-shaped for the hours, a large assegai-shaped for the minutes, and a baton-shaped hand for the seconds. The hour and seconds counters recessed and contracted with a nickel black snailed finish.

The new regulator watch from Laurent Ferrier is powered by the automatic movement LF Caliber 228.01, delivering up to 72 hours of power reserve. The case protects it from the ingress of water to 30 meters of depth, while also revealing its finely finished surfaces through the sapphire crystal back. Beside the Côtes-de-Genève motif on the bridges and the circular graining on the mainplate, the wheel spokes are beveled, the screw heads are chamfered and polished and the interior angles are handcrafted.

The Galet Square Régulateur Black will be available from Laurent Ferrier agents from August 2018. It comes with a price tag of CHF 47,000.
