The house of Laurent Ferrier is adding a new exclusive model to its Galet collection.
Galet, the brand’s first collection, debuted in 2010 with Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Hairspring. Same year, the model was awarded by the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix. Five years later, at BaselWorld 2015, Laurent Ferrier unveiled the Galet Square fitted with a Micro-Rotor with natural escapement. In 2016, the evolution of the Galet continued with a new model, which represents a perfect fusion between two previous: The Galet Classic Square Tourbillon Double Hairspring.
In each of its renditions, the Galet Classic incorporates at tourbillon device, complemented by two head-to-tail mounted balance-springs in the center of the balance. The construction, developed by Laurent Ferrier, maintains the center of the balance firmly on its axis, while compensating for the effects of gravity, and ensuring extreme reliability of the movement.
The design of the Galet Classic is inspired by the large 19th century chronometers. Its manual winding system features a long blade retched pawl hand-finished in the Manufacture’s workshops. The movement, complete with its winding component, can be admired through the case-back, which is sealed with a sapphire crystal. While the core of the watch, its mechanical workings, are lavishly adorned in the spirit of the most demanding standards of traditional watchmaking, the case and the dial reveal the purest expression of elegance and style.
Earlier this month, Laurent Ferrier introduced the Galet Square Swiss Finetiming Limited Edition Vintage America I. The stunning new model is the fruit of the collaboration between Laurent Ferrier and one of its exclusive retailers, Swiss FineTiming. The watch features a two-tone sector dial typical of the late 1930s, and unique lugs specifically created for this limited edition of 10 pieces. The dial reveals division between an outer circle with a circular satin-brushed finish and a central zone with a vertical satin-brushed finish, resulting in a refined two-tone effect. The space is marked out by a black nickel gold slender and raised chapter ring. The dial is highlighted with black nickel gold Arabic numerals at 9, 12 and 3 o’clock, and an applied chapter with a round cabochon cut finish.
The stainless steel case of the model measures 41x41 mm in dimensions, and it is water resistant to 30 meters of depth. It houses the automatic winding movement FBN calibre 229.01, which is built from 186 individual components and 35 jewels. The movement beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, and provides about 72 hours of power reserve. To highlight this special creation, Laurent Ferrier redesigned the lugs, offering a unique design with a side decoration. The case is fitted with a ball-shaped winding-crown, while the back sapphire reveals the Swiss FineTiming logo.
The Galet Square "Vintage I" Limited Edition to 10 pieces is exclusively available at Laurent Ferrie retailer in Chicago (Swiss FineTiming, Atelier Jewellers, 645 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois). The watch retails at $42,700.
