Earlier this year, on the occasion of the SIHH exhibition, the house of Louis Vuitton unveiled the Flying Tourbillon Geneva Seal model, which celebrates the Maison’s inauguration to the exclusive circle of Swiss watchmakers that bear this prestigious certification.
The Geneva Seal, or Poinçon de Genève, is the official seal of the City and Canton of Geneva, and a symbol of the highest accolade in the watchmaking industry. To obtain this certification, the watch, including all of its components, has to be made in the City or Canton of Geneva, its components have to be approved the by 7-member committee of the Hallmark of Geneva, and it has to pass a rigorous inspection process.

Louis Vuitton celebrates the achievement in the grand manner. The Maison has created a never before seen skeleton tourbillon movement, and placed it in a new case with an exceptional level of transparency. A contemporary approach has been combined with the best of traditional Swiss watchmaking techniques. The prestigious e “Poinçon de Genève”, a coat of arms bearing a crowned eagle and an upturned key, can be seen on the face of the watch, at 9 o’clock position.

The vertical positioning of the movement, which allows for open spaces on both sides of the dial, creates an impression of airy lightweightness. A spectacular skeletonized flying tourbillon, with the V-shaped tourbillon carriage, appears at 6 o’clock, completing one full rotation per minute. The hours and minutes dial is positioned above the tourbillon, on a smoked sapphire crystal disc. The indicator features V-shaped hour markers for 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock.
The cushion-shaped case of Louis Vuitton Flying Tourbillon Geneva Seal measures 41 x 43.7mm, and it is crafted from rare and precious platinum. The case accommodates Louis Vuitton LV104 calibre, which is entirely developed by La Fabrique du Temps for Louis Vuitton, according to the strict criteria of the Geneva Seal. Louis Vuitton Flying Tourbillon Geneva Seal retails at about $234,000.
