On the occasion of the SIAR (Salon Internacional Alta Relojeria) 2015 watch show in Mexico City, the house of Montblanc unveiled its Montblanc 1858 collection, which is a tribute to the manufacture founded under the name Minerva.
This fabled Swiss watch manufacture, established in 1887, was particularly famous for producing chronograph movements. Today it is a part of Montblanc in the Richemont group. Today, Minerva mainly produces watch movements for its parent Montblanc, and other Richemont companies, especially Officine Panerai. In 2015, the house of Montblanc introduces two contemporary watches inspired by the chronometer watches created throughout Minerva'a 157-year history. The new Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter chronograph is inspired by the monopusher chronograph developed by Minerva during the 1930s.

The historical Minerva chronograph, which now, revisited, joins the Montblanc 1858 collection, incorporates the chronograph push-piece, which is a reminiscent of that of the fluted facets on period timepieces. In its modern rendition, the watch is made of 18-karat red gold, and it comes in an easy-to-grasp ergonomic case, which is easy to handle even by pilots wearing gloves. The dial construction, design, and color are preserving the vintage feel of the historical timepiece. Same as all dials from the Montblanc 1858 collection, it bears the historic logo of Montblanc. The numerals and hands are both luminescent, same as on the inspirational model. Only the rail track around the bicompax dial of the chronograph differs a bit, for it has a tachymetric scale on the edge of the finely pad-printed rail track.
Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter, reference number 112637, is made of 18-karat red gold and it measures 44mm in diameter. The watch is issued in a limited edition of 100 individual exemplars. Each of them features a beveled winding crown that includes the single push-piece of the chronograph, and a fine round bezel. Its bicompax dial reveals large Arabic numerals and “cathedral” hands coated with Super-LumiNova. The counter at 9 o'clock displays the seconds, while the second counter shows the minutes elapsed since the chronograph has been started. Everything is placed on a deep black background on which the historical Montblanc insignia has been drawn.

The Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter is powered by the Minerva caliber MB M16.29 hand-wound mechanism, which is visible through the sapphire crystal case back. It also reveals the iconic engraved “V” chronograph bridge, which has been protected by Minerva since 1912. This classic mechanism, has been assembled from 252 components, adjusted and finished by hand in the Villeret Manufacture. The watch beats at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour, and allows an autonomy of 50 hours. The watch is mounted on a black alligator strap with beige stitching. It retails for $32,900.
