Swiss watchmaker Rado, best known for its sleek ceramic watches, introduces a new vintage-inspired dive watch. The new Rado Tradition Captain Cook MKIII Automatic is following the success of the last year’s HyperChrome Captain Cook Limited Edition, a reinterpretation of a Rado watch collection from the 1960s. The new rendition of Rado’s most popular diver is a model inspired by another historical Captain Cook design from 1962.

The vintage legend is brought to life in a new, modernized form, tailored for the twenty-first century wearer. The watch is a 46.8-mm diver housed in a matte black tonneau-shaped case and highlighted by bright yellow accents on the hands, dial, and inner rotating bezel. While its vintage-styled detailing remains true to the original, Rado adds a contemporary design twist through the use of modern materials and technical advances.

The new diver from Rado features a smooth, sandblasted case of masculine proportions. Generously sized at 46.8mm x 48.3mm, the case is water resistant to 220 meters and mounted on a black textile strap. The diver features an internal compressor-style diving bezel, which is operated via the crown at 2 o’clock. Its sleek black dial reveals a day/date indicator at 3 o’clock, a rhodium yellow minute hand and a white hour hand, as well as the stylized yellow Rado logo.

Within the case is the ETA C07.621 automatic movement beating at a frequency of 3Hz, endowed with about 80 hours of hour reserve. The movement is covered by an engraved case-back featuring seahorses and stars set against a wavy backdrop.

Rado Tradition Captain Cook MKIII Automatic, reference 764.6030.3.117, debuts October 2018. In the United States, it will be available exclusively at Macy’s for $2,550. - rado.com.
