BaselWorld 2017
The independent Swiss luxury watchmaker, Raymond Weil, known for its continuous engagement in the arts and music, introduces a brand new Freelancer Chronograph inspired by the legendary guitar, named for its inventor, Lester William Polsfuss, also known as Les Paul. The original, free-spirited timepiece is announced as a tribute to the legendary Les Paul Gibson guitar, and some of the most brilliant musicians who have turned to this instrument: Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, and Keith Richards.
Breaking loose from tradition, the new elegant yet rebellious model embodies a distinctive rock-and-roll attitude. This rather large, stainless steel model features a black PVD bezel inspired by the lacquer on the luxurious “Black Beauty” Gibson Les Paul Custom guitar. The dial, designed like a guitar board, is adorned with a guilloché motif featuring six chords surrounded by fret-shaped hour markers. The name of the famous guitar manufacturer, and Les Paul’s signature, appears at 12 o’clock position, while the split-diamond inlay, a distinctive feature of the Les Paul Custom guitars, shines in next to the date window at 4:30 position. The watch is mounted on ebony perforated calf leather strap evoking the sound holes on the guitar body.
The case, measuring 43.5 mm, accommodates the mechanical self-winding movement caliber RW5010. The movement is based on the ETA 7753, it beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, and offers 46 hours of autonomy. The emblematic Raymond Weil signed rotor can be admired through the smoked sapphire case back, adorned with the Gibson insignia.
Raymond Weil Freelancer Chronograph Gibson Les Paul is offered in a special collector’s edition comprising 300 individually numbered pieces. The watch is delivered in a special presentation box, inspired by the look of Gibson guitar hard cases. The watch will be officially unveiled at Baselworld 2017.
