One of the new Richard Mille models, which is going to be officially unveiled at this year’s BaselWold exhibition, is the new, aeronautics-inspired, Automatic Flyback Chronograph Aviation E6-B.
Similarly to recently announced Richard Mille Nano-Ceramic RM 52-01 Skull Tourbillon, the new RM 39-01 Chronograph Aviation E6-B is crafted using the most advanced materials such as carbon nanofiber, titanium, orthorhombic titanium aluminide, ARCAP and tungsten carbide. The new Richard Mille creations are beautifully demonstrating the mechanical and aesthetic properties of these materials, closing the gap between aeronautics and fine watchmaking.
Richard Mille RM 39-01 Automatic Flyback Chronograph Aviation E6-B is the new incarnation of the famous RM 039 Aviation watch. This complex tourbillon is composed of no less than 1000 different components and designed as a genuine flight navigation instrument. One of its most prominent features is the E6B slide rule (whiz wheel), which is used to read and calculate fuel consumption, flight times, ground speed, density altitude and wind influence, and to convert units of measurement. The slide rule is a copy of an E6B flight computer that is very common in aviation, and it features a fixed bezel and bi-directional rotating bezel that match up at different points to allow different kinds of calculations to be done. For example, the pilot can set known values on one side (speed), and then look up the variables on the other side (distance). Needless to say, the E6B slide rule doesn’t consume any power and it is extremely safe to use.
Richard Mille RM 39-01 Automatic Flyback Chronograph Aviation E6-B is powered by the RMAC2 automatic caliber. This advanced mechanism provides UTC and countdown functions, a flyback chronograph, an oversized date at 12 o'clock, a month display and a variable geometry rotor. Composed of 620 individual parts and built on 62 jewels, it offers up to 50 hours of power reserve. To maximize the safety, the caliber is equipped with a function-locking mechanism which prevents any unintentional activation of the chronograph during flight.
Richard Mille RM 39-01 Automatic Flyback Chronograph Aviation E6-B has a case that features a unique four-part structure. The watch measures 50.00 mm in diameter and 16.80 mm in thickness and features sapphire crystals with anti-glare treatment on both the bezel side and the back.
