Richard Mille has announced the launch of its new RM 67-01 Automatic Extra Flat model, which houses the new automatic movement CRMA6 that is only 3.6mm thick! The Richard Mille RM 67-01 Automatic Extra Flat will be officially unveiled at the SIHH 2016 exhibition, in January.
Recently, the house of Richard Mille presented the special RM 033 Extra Flat timepiece, which made a strong impression thanks to its elegant and slim round case combined with a skeletonized movement. The same principle is now used to create another Extra Flat watch, the new RM 67-01 Automatic, the watch respectful of the Richard Mille’s DNA.
Like most of the Richard Mille’s models, the new RM 67-01 Automatic Extra Flat comes in a tonneau shaped case. However, this is the first time ever that the tonneau case has been created in an extra flat form. The watch case, which is only 7.75mm thick, requires no less than almost 6 hours of machining, and 68 different stamping operations required for the bezel, case band and back bezel. Each case represents more than 215 separate machining operations, before it undergoes brushing and polishing by hand. As described in the official press release: „The machine tooling process requires 8 days of adjusting the machines for the bezel, 5 days for the case band and 5 days for the back bezel. Prior to this process, developing a methodology for carrying out this series of operations took 145 hours, the drawings for the tools 130 hours, and implementation 180 hours... making the Richard Mille tonneau case one of the most time consuming and complex cases created in Switzerland today.“
The case measures 38.7mm x 47.52mm x 7.75mm in dimensions, and it accommodates the skeletonized Swiss automatic Richard Mille in-house caliber CRMA6. The movement is built on 25 jewels, it beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, and promises about 50 hours of power reserve. Located between 1 and 2 o’clock is the function indicator for Winding, Date and Hand setting. Even though the mechanism is automatic, it requires a little bit of winding when used for the first time or after having not been worn for a couple of days.
The numerals have been created from solid metal and mounted on two linked and rigid titanium rails attached directly to the movement. Each numeral has been sculptured out of solid metal and filled with Luminova, which makes it a first of its kind for Richard Mille. The date window, positioned at 5 o’clock, is also outlined with bright Luminova.
