Romain Jerome 1969 Heavy Metal Meteorite and Silicium

Marina Milojević | 01.31.14 | 06:43 AM

RJ-Romain Jerome is launching its new 1969 collection, with a new case design.

Four new Romain Jerome 1969 Heavy Metal timepieces are now available in a vintage-inspired 43mm cases that combine geometrical lines with colorful dynamic dials evocative of outer space. The first version of the new 1969 Heavy Metal model features an exquisite dial made from Meteorite. RJ-Romain Jerome has chosen a special type of meteorite, named Chondrite, which is said to be much rarer and more precious than platinum or gold. Chondrites are formed from dust and small grains that were present in the early solar system, and they are actually most solid layer of any extraterrestrial rock that falls to Earth. The Meteorite version of the 1969 Heavy Metal is a satin-finished steel wristwatch with a gorgeous silver-toned dial and rhodiumed inner ring.

The other versions of the RJ-Romain Jerome 1969 Heavy Metal are boasting differently colored silicium dials. Silicium represents about 90% of Earth’s crust and, in its purified form, it is very fragile and naturally translucent. Silicium is here colored in blue, grey, and brown, using a special PDV process that gives it a textured finish. The Silicon models are also crafted from stainless steel, although a brown dial features a black PVD-coated steel case and bezel.

Romain Jerome 1969 Heavy Metal models are powered by a mechanical self-winding movement RJ003-A. This mechanism beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and runs on 40-hour power reserve. The small seconds sub-dial is applied at 9 o’clock onto every 1969 dial version, while the cut-out minute and second hand’s tips feature a generous blue-emitting layer of Superluminova. The case-backs are textured with a grainy stellar pattern and adorned with an ornament made from RJ’s Moon SilverRJ reproducing the lunar surface. This special alloy is made from silver that incorporates fine grains of genuine moon dust.

Romain Jerome 1969 Heavy Metal is limited at 99 pieces per version, except for the 1969 Black Metal Brown Silicium model, which is the most exclusive and offered in a 25-piece edition.

RJ-Romain Jerome and DC Entertainment are teaming up again for a new collectible timepiece – the Batman-DNA Gotham City. Same as its predecessor, the new Batman-inspired wristwatch is created in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, and inspired by The Dark Knight trilogy.

The latest iteration of the Batman-DNA pays tribute to the City of Gotham, a fictional American city, and a home of the famous Caped Crusader – Batman. The famous American Writer, Frank Miller, the author of The Dark Knight Returns, once metaphorically stated that Gotham City is nothing but New York at night. Perhaps that is why Romain Jerome decided to create a dial that comes to life at night. Thanks to a strong blue-emission SuperLuminova, the dial lightens up in low light conditions, giving even deeper perspective to a sophisticated dial bu...
