On the occasion of the SIHH 2014 exhibition, Richard Mille unveils the first watch designed and created together with the famous actress Natalie Portman.
Natalie Portman, the Oscar-winning American actress, is the official ambassador of the Swiss watchmaking brand since 2011. This year, Richard Mille reveals its Tourbillon RM 19-01 Natalie Portman that features a breathtaking diamond-set tracery that is based upon the image of a spider. Natalie Portman has chosen a spider motif for her watch because of its strong symbolic power and its connection to feminine energy and creativity. The spider is a symbol of the soul and freedom, while its tread symbolizes a support in spiritual development. In African folklore, the god of all knowledge of stories, called Anansi, often takes the shape of a spider. This West African god is a symbol of skill and wisdom in speech, the creator of the first humans and maker of the Sun, Moon and stars.
Richard Mille Tourbillon RM 19-01 Natalie Portman is a manually wound tourbillon, powered by the caliber RM19-01. The movement is built around a black rhodium-plated 18K white gold baseplate that is set with a black sapphire. The spider motif is rendered in white gold and set with tiny white diamonds. Its silhouette is fully embedded into movement with the abdomen supporting the bridges of the tourbillon and the legs supporting two winding barrels. A back side of the watch reveals a spiderweb-inspired construction of the movement, along with an inscription Limited Edition Natalie Portman.
Richard Mille Tourbillon RM 19-01 Natalie Portman is available in a numbered limited edition of 20 exemplars worldwide. The famous actress has announced that she will be wearing this new creation at several upcoming events worldwide.
A similar collaboration took place about two years ago, when Richard Mille presented its RM 051 Phoenix-Michelle Yeoh, which was created in partnership with the renowned Malaysian actress. This watch, inspired by Asia, is graced with the phoenix symbol, a mythic bird that serves as a symbol of grace, feminine beauty and strength.
