Tudor Black Bay Chrono Dark

Marina Milojević | 09.24.19 | 08:50 PM

On the occasion of the Rugby World Cup 2019, the house of Tudor celebrates its partnership with New Zealand’s national rugby team, called the All Blacks, by unveiling a special limited edition of its Black Bay Chronograph. The new, black version of the sporty model, which was first shown at Baselworld 2017, comes in a limited edition with the same number of timepieces as All Blacks players since the team’s creation in 1884.

As a nod to the All Blacks team, the watch features a satin-brushed stainless steel case that has undergone a black PVD treatment. The satin-brushed steel bracelet features the same finish obtained by using the thin-film technology originally developed by NASA for its space programs. PVD, or Physical Vapor Deposition, enables any inorganic material to be bonded with metals. The color choice is an obvious reference to the All Blacks team, which Tudor has been supporting since 2017.

The all-black model features a black dial with tone-on-tone chronograph counters and Tudor’s signature Snowflake hands. The hands, and the oversized round hour-markers, are painted in white, green-emission luminous material. In this way the watch, rated to 200 meters (660 ft) of water resistance, remains legible even deep underwater. A date indicator appears at 6 o’clock, below a domed sapphire crystal. The case, generously sized at 41mm in diameter, is topped by a fixed matt black PVD-treated steel bezel with a black anodized aluminum disc with tachymetric scale with silver markings.

The watch is powered by the manufacture chronograph calibre MT5831, a COSC-certified automatic movement derived from the Manufacture chronograph Calibre Breitling 01. The movement, which is a result of a lasting collaboration between the two brands, ensures around 70 hours of power reserve. The 4Hz movement animates the central chronograph seconds hand, a 45-minute counter at 3 o’clock, and small seconds at 9 o’clock. It also includes a stop seconds function for precise time setting.

As aforementioned, the Tudor Black Bay Chrono Dark, reference 79360DK, is released in a limited edition of 1181 exemplars, which is something that Tudor rarely does. The number resonates with the number of All Black players throughout the history of the team. As announced by Tudor, an additional piece will be added to the series every time a new player is selected. The watch retails for EUR 5,590. For more information, please visit tudorwatch.com.
