Ulysse Nardin introduces the new Ulysse Anchor Tourbillon
The house of Ulysse Nardin presents the new Ulysse Anchor Tourbillon, a watch powered by the Maison’s awarded movement, the most recent being the Tourbillon Watch Prize from the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG). The Ulysse Anchor Tourbillon, a model that was first introduced earlier this year, on the occasion of the BaselWorld trade show, is a special type of tourbillon that incorporates the constant Ulysse Anchor escapement, which is entirely made of silicon, and designed by the principles of flexible mechanisms, exploiting the elasticity of flat springs.
The Ulysse Anchor Tourbillon timepiece introduced a number of technical innovations, thanks to the Anchor Escapement - which is made in partnership with Sigatec, a company specialized in creating silicon micro-components. For example, its pallet fork is no longer constrained by a pivoting staff, so that it now moves without any friction. The kinetic energy from the balance wheel is conveyed into the blades, which can only travel left or right. The spring can become distorted along the left-right axis, while remaining perfectly rigid along the up-down axis, thus replacing the function of a traditional pivot. Since the blades are snapping from one stable state to another, the final result, the movement of the pallet arms without generating any frictional forces.
The pallet fork has also been redesigned, so that it now features an integrated resetting face, which makes the escapement even more efficient, as it now necessitates less energy for the balance wheel to drive the pallet fork. The latest Ulysse Nardin Tourbillon repeats all of the elements of this pioneering technology, and brings them with a cascade of sapphire hues, inspired by the depths of the sea. The watch features a translucent blue enamel dial, and is available in a limited edition in both rose and white gold.
The new Ulysse Anchor Tourbillon by Ulysse Nardin is limited to 18 pieces in red, and 18 pieces in rose gold. The watch case measures 44 mm in diameter, and it accommodates the Caliber UN-178 tourbillon movement, which beats at a frequency of 18.000 vibrations per hour. Thanks to the double-barrel system, the watch provides a minimum of 7 days of power reserve. The handy power reserve indicator is placed at the 6 o’clock position, just below the central hours and minutes hands. The watch face and the case-back are protected by a sapphire crystal, while the case is mounted on a leather strap with a simple buckle.
Reference numbers for the new Ulysse Anchor Tourbillon by Ulysse Nardin are 1780-133/E3 and 1786-133/E3.
