The house of Ulysse Nardin, established 1846 in the Swiss Le Locle, acquired its fortune and fame by producing highly accurate marine chronometers, which were, at one point during 1800’s, supplied to over fifty of the world’s naval forces.

A marine chronometer is a timepiece that is precise and accurate enough to be used to determine longitude by means of celestial navigation. The pocket chronometer was the captain’s watch, and a mark of his high rank both on the land and sea. In the 19th century, when explorers and voyagers roamed the world seas, Ulysse Nardin chronometers were among the most precise and most coveted, prized among naval officers and merchant captains.

Paying a tribute to its marine heritage, Ulysse Nardin has created its iconic Marine Chronometer, a timepiece that unites both technical performance and elegant design. In 2017, the famous Swiss watchmaker extends the range to include a new generation chronometer, built for the modern era: Ulysse Nardin Marine Torpilleur.
Ulysse Nardin Marine Torpilleur is named after the small, torpedo-armed fast attack boats designed to counter battleships and other slow and heavily armed vessels by relying on speed, agility, and power. The watch itself is a lighter, thinner version of the iconic Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronometer, distinguished by a more dynamic appeal.

The new timepiece is powered by Ulysse Nardin’s officially chronometer-certified Caliber UN-118, featuring a silicon hairspring and escapement. Aesthetically, the watch falls in line with the brand’s iconic Marine collection, which is inspired by Ulysse Nardin’s centuries-long excellence in the production of marine chronometers. The watch is available in three different versions, with a choice of two different dials and two case materials.

The 42 mm 18-karat rose gold Marine Torpilleur with a white dial and leather strap with folding buckle. Screw-down security crown, sapphire crystals and water-resistance to 50 m.

The 42 mm stainless-steel Marine Torpilleur with a white dial and leather strap with folding buckle. Screw-down security crown, sapphire crystals and water-resistance to 50 m.

The 42 mm stainless steel case with a blue dial and stainless steel bracelet. Screw-down security crown, sapphire crystals and water-resistance to 50 m.
Ulysse Nardin Marine Torpilleur is already available at retail and priced from $6,900, which makes it an excellent entry-level timepiece worthy of your attention. For more on this watch, visit Ulysse Nardin online.
