Ulysse Nardin unveils the new caliber UN-118

The new movement is first of the Ulysse Nardin 's movements fitted with an in-house-produced and patented DIAMonSIL escapement and in-house-produced oscillator adjustable with four screws and fitted with a silicium 1.1.1 hairspring. Sigatec is a company that uses nanotechnology capable of producing high-precision components from these hi-tech materials.

For those of you who never heard of DIAMonSIL here is a brief description. DIAMonSIL is an extremely durable but light material crafted from silicium and man-made diamond. When used in watchmaking, DIAMonSIL eliminates the friction between the components of movement, and removes the need for lubrication of the escapement. For many years, this has been the watchmaker’s holy grail, which is now reached owing to this innovative avant-garde material.
