Annual Calendar is a useful feature of a mechanical watch that allows automatic adjustments of months with 30 or 31 days. Annual calendar needs to be manually adjusted only once a year, when February turns into March. The only exceptions to this rule are leap years, when 29th February automatically moves to 1st March at midnight. Perpetual calendars are far more complicated, and they do not require any kind of adjustments till 2100, but they are typically very expensive. Annual calendar is, therefore, in the golden middle between the regular calendar indicator and highly complicated perpetual calendar.

Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda Annual Calendar
The most recent development by Parmigiani is based on their in-house PF 331 automatic movement. The movement is now reinforced with an additional Parmigiani module, resulting in PF 339, self-winding Retrograde Annual Calendar movement. The movement is for the first time used in new Tonda Annual Calendar watch, which has an enchanting vintage appeal, thanks to the large retrograde date indication, arching from 7 to 5 o’clock. Day of the week indicator is positioned at 9 o’clock while a single Arabic numeral indicates month in a sub-counter at 3 o’clock. Lower portion of the dial is reserved for the precision moon phase, developed by Parmigiani. This function requires a single adjustment every 120 years. It features two indications for the moon: one for the Northern hemisphere and one for the Southern hemisphere.
The watch is offered in two variations, crafted from white gold or rose gold. Both models boast 40 millimeters in diameter having either silver or charcoal grey dial with subtle grained decoration in the center. The watch is water resistant to 30 meters and finished with a Hermès alligator strap with 18-carat polished ardillon buckle.
