Same as every year, the house of A. Lange & Sohne introduces a gorgeous new Handwerkskunst model that demonstrates artisanal virtuosity and rare decorative crafts that the German watchmaker is keeping alive. This year’s exclusive Handwerkskunst edition is the exclusive new take on the 1815 Rattrapante Perpetual Calendar, available in a limited run of 20 pieces and priced at priced at €290,000.
The 1815 Rattrapante Perpetual Calendar Handwerkskunst represents a grande union of classic complications and enameled white gold with elaborate relief engravings. This is the first model in the Handwerkskunst series that combines enamel art and engraving on its solid gold dial. The dial reveals hour and minute hands, a sub-dial at six o'clock for the running seconds and the moonphase, as well as the split-seconds chronograph function and its 30-minute totalizer at 12 o'clock that doubles as a power reserve indicator.
The sold gold dial features sculpted contours of the relief-engraved stars, a visual extension of the moon phase display. Blue enamel is then applied over the top, creating a lovely representation of a nocturnal sky. The color of the enamel is echoed by the lunar disc and the blued-steel minute-counter hand. The dial also reveals a complete perpetual calendar with day of the week and date, the month, and the leap year indicator.

The reverse side of the watch reveals yet another surprise - a hinged cuvette protecting the sapphire crystal, adorned with even more enameling and engraving. The beautiful medallion depicts the ancient goddess Luna, the mythological personification of the moon, executed in relief and tremblage engraving. Luna is shown with their signature features - a billowing veil, a crescent moon diadem and a torch – surrounded by a raised star and cloud relief in blue enamel.
The movement powering the watch is the manually wound caliber L101.1, with a 42-hour power reserve. The plates and the bridges are made from German silver, finished with a granular texture. The movement is made from 631 individual components, 43 total jewels and four screwed gold chatons. The stellar motif of the dial is repeated on the operating-lever, cover and chronograph bridges, as well as on the rattrapante and balance cocks.
The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Rattrapante Perpetual Calendar Handwerkskunst comes in a 41.9 millimeter white-gold case and on a blue-grey alligator leather strap secured with a white-gold deployant buckle.
