At BaselWorld 2016, Ateliers deMonaco presented the Tourbillon Oculus 1297 in titanium.
The brand is one of the rare and recognized independent watch manufactures that specializes in developing and hand-crafting limited edition watches, or unique pieces on request. The brand also prides itself on being the fifth brand bearing the demanding Poinçon de Genève.
For BaselWorld 2016,Ateliers deMonaco introduces the Ateliers deMonaco Tourbillon Oculus 1297 in titanium, a watch that honors the Monaco’s royal family, the Grimaldi’s, and the year that Francois Grimaldi, disguised as a monk, snatched power by conquering the Italian occupiers with a help of a small army. The Tourbillon Oculus, one of the most emblematic models for the Maison, is often mentioned as a masterpiece of precision watchmaking.
This modern-looking tourbillon features an off-centered dial at 12 o’clock, offset by the dial aperture showing the tourbillon at 6 o’clock. The case, measuring 44mm in diameter, is now crafted in titanium and paired with a gorgeous royal blue dial decorated with relief lozenges. The gorgeous, contemporary-looking décor was made with a 5-axis laser machine that sublimes the material by firstly heating and then melting it. The overall finish of the dial refracts the light in different directions, which results in a play of brilliance and highlights the elegance of a watch.
The hours and minutes counter is fashioned in the spirit of classic elegance, featuring Roman numerals and dauphine-shaped hands. A blend of classicism and modernity results in a truly unique timepiece.
The Tourbillon Oculus 1297 is powered by the in-house patented Tourbillon XP1 movement, which provides indications for hours, minutes and small seconds. This calibre has an average tolerance between o-2 seconds per 24 hours, which makes it one of the most precise tourbillon movements available today. Again, the brand pays attention to the long-established principles of fine watchmaking, and decorates the movement with the sapphire tourbillon bridge, hand-engraved 22-karat gold rotor, and the silicium escape wheel and lever. The sapphire case-back allows the wearer to admire the details.
Ateliers deMonaco Tourbillon Oculus 1297 is mounted on a royal blue alligator leather strap with the titanium folding buckle. The model is also available with a grey dial fitted either in a rose gold or white gold case. Each version of the model is limited to only 88 pieces. The watch is water resistant to up to 30 meters.
