Chopard's famous Grand Prix de Monaco Historique collection welcomes two limited edition chronographs, designed to honor the latest edition of the world's most prestigious classic racing competition.
Described as powerful diver's instruments, these sporty yet elegant timepieces are paying tribute to the tenth edition of the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, the luxurious classic car event that Chopard has been partnering and serving as official timekeeper since 2002.
As always, the design of two powerful chronographs is inspired by historical cars. In addition, the chronographs are designed to support the competitors taking part in the race. These reliable and perfectly legible chronographs may serve as reliable measuring instruments for race drivers and other sport enthusiasts. They can be used that as a stopwatch combined with a display watch – besides the basic function of telling time, they can also display elapsed time. Their grey bezels with a tachymetric scale are ideal for calculating average speeds during the race, or measuring distance based on speed.
The new Chopard Grand Prix De Monaco Historique 2016 Race Edition is available two versions: shot blasted titanium and stainless steel, or 18-carat rose gold, respectively issued in 500-piece and 100-piece editions. Their 44.5 mm-diameter cases, secured by screws reminiscent of automobile bolts, are fitted with chronograph pushers shaped like engine pistons, and topped with a grey bezel with tachymetric scale. The case-back reveals the Automobile Club de Monaco insignia.
The watches are powered by the COSC-certified self-winding chronograph movement, endowed with a 46-hour power reserve. In addition to the chronograph function, the movement offers indications for hours, minutes, seconds, and date function. The movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, and provides up to 46 hours of power reserve. The case protects it from the ingress of water to up to 100 meters.
Both versions of the model are fitted with a silver-toned snailed dial with grey and silver-toned chronograph counters. The minute circle is punctuated by applied hour-markers. The only thing that distinguishes one version of the model from another, is the color of the central sweep-seconds hand. The bright orange one is present on the titanium/stainless steel version, while the blue one adorns the 18-carat rose gold model. The watches are priced at $6,890 and $21,300 USD, respectively.
Both watches are delivered with two interchangeable straps, the vintage-styled Barenia calfskin strap with orange or blue stitching, or the grey NATO strap bearing orange or blue racing stripes for a casual sporty style.
