Chopard, the famous Swiss watch and jewelry manufacturer, unites two of its major skills in a new LUC model.
On the occasion of the BaselWorld trade show, earlier this year, Chopard introduced the L.U.C XP 35 mm Esprit de Fleurier Peony timepiece of lavish elegance and technical sophistication. The L.U.C. XP model, which serves as the starting point for the new creation, is a flagship model among the Chopard Haute Horlogerie collection of L.U.C watches. Two years ago, Chopard introduced its L.U.C. in smaller size, with a 35 mm diameter, dedicated to the ladies. In 2016, the Maison offers another feminine interpretation of the famous L.U.C, which is now graced with Fleurisanne engraving, gold, and Tahitian mother-of-pearl.
The Chopard L.U.C XP 35 mm Esprit de Fleurier Peony timepiece retells the legend of peony, a legendary flower from Greek and oriental mythology. Its delicate fragrance and gorgeous blossoms contributed to its symbolic status as a harbinger of good luck, abundance and happy marriages. In Asia, peony represents wealth and honor, and ranks as a symbol of springtime, and a metaphor of feminine beauty. The L.U.C XP 35 mm Esprit de Fleurier is now reborn in an eight-piece limited edition featuring a peony motif.
The golden dial of the watch is layered with delicate pink-colored Tahitian mother of pearl. A diamond-set peony motif appears on the dial, while the movement of two gilt Dauphine-type hours and minutes hands represents the passage of time.
The special floral décor on the rose gold movement is created using a Fleurisanne engraving technique, an almost extinct handcraft. The technique is notably distinguished by its raised motifs. The engraver keeps the motif that he aims to make stand out, and engraves it with scrolling patterns or flowers. The motif is then polished to obtain the shiny finish, while the base surrounding it is stippled dot by dot, to create a grainy effect. After engraving, the movement is rhodium-coated to attain a distinctive two-tone appearance.
Chopard L.U.C XP 35 mm Esprit de Fleurier Peony is crafted from 18-karat white gold. Its case, which is water resistant to 30 meters, houses the self-winding movement L.U.C 96.23-L. The caliber is equipped with 29 jewels and it beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Thanks to its two barrels, the movement provides 65 hours of power reserve.
Chopard L.U.C XP 35 mm Esprit de Fleurier Peony is held on a delicate brushed pink canvas strap with diamond-set 18-carat rose gold pin buckle. The watch is available in 8-piece limited series, and is exclusively available in Chopard boutiques. Reference number 131944-5001.
