Same as every year, the house of Chopard introduces a new motorsport inspired timepiece to honor the Mille Miglia classic car rally. It all began in 1988, when the famous Swiss watchmaker became timing partner and official timekeeper of the world-famous rally. The Mille Miglia collection of watches, distinguished by virile sporty creations, now welcomes the special Mille Miglia 2017 Race Edition. The new model is issued in a limited series of 1000 exemplars in steel symbolizing the spirit of the legendary Italian competition.
The Mille Miglia collection, which was remodeled two years ago as the new Mille Miglia GTS (Grand Turismo Sport) collection, welcomes a new COSC-certified timepiece with a unique and powerful style inspired by the design of classic cars. Issued in two limited series of 1,000 in steel, this sporty chronograph measures 44 mm in diameter, and is water resistant to 100 meters. The round, robust case is completed with traditionally-shaped pushers inspired by car engines, and a large fluted crown resembling a fuel tank cap. Embracing the dial is the bezel with an aluminum insert bearing the tachymetric scale, which can be used for measuring speed based on travel time or distance based on speed.
This extremely readable watch, designed for competition, features a silver-toned dial with engine-turned finish composed of tiny overlapping circles. To ensure legibility in all conditions, the wide baton-type hands and indices were painted with Super-Luminova. The font on the snailed counters, underlined by the contrasting red accents, evokes a classic car dashboard.
The watch is powered by a self-winding chronograph movement that beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph. COSC-certified and mounted on 25 jewels, the movement ensures around 48 hours of power reserve. The high-performance mechanism is housed in a case with a solid case-back stamped with the Mille Miglia logo and “Mille Miglia 1927-2017” inscription.
Chopard Mille Miglia 2017 Race Edition, reference 168571-3002, is mounted on a black rubber strap with a 1960s Dunlop racing tyre-tread motif, secured by a steel folding clasp. The watch is priced at CHF 6,700.
